The Federal Programs and Grants Management department supports the successful implementation of various grants and grant-funded initiatives. Each grant is designed to increase, enhance and improve student and staff performance within Polk County Public Schools. Grants and their purposes include:

  • Grants Management – Pursuing competitive grants
  • District Grants – School improvement and after-school programs

What is Title I

The goal of Title I is to improve student achievement through effective instruction, professional development, and family involvement.

  • Title I, Part A - Basic

    These funds provide additional instructional staff, professional development, extended learning programs, and other supports for raising student achievement in high-poverty schools.

  • Title I, Part C - Migrant Education Program

    This program provides supplemental educational support to migratory students who work, or whose families work, in the agricultural and fishing industries.

  • Title I, Part D - Local Programs for Neglected & Delinquent Students

    This program supports students who are neglected, delinquent or at risk. Supplemental staff, resources and support are provided to sites specializing in providing services to these students.

  • Title IX, Part A - Homeless Education Program

    This program assists students experiencing homelessness by eliminating barriers to school enrollment, attendance, stability and overall academic success.

  • Grants Management

    The Grants Team collaborates with various school district departments and community agencies to obtain and manage competitive grants.

Title II, Part A - Staff Development & Teacher Recruitment

This program provides grants to state educational agencies and sub-grants to local educational agencies, including school districts.

SIG 4 Grant

The objective of the SIG 4 Grant is to assist Bartow Middle School in providing every child with engaging, differentiated, ambitious instruction. The vision is to transform Bartow Middle into an A-rated school, where high student and school achievement is attained through strategic, research-based structures of school improvement.

Schools of Hope

This program supports interventions at Kathleen High School that lead to student success by providing wrap-around services, building the capacity of instructional staff and leadership, improving school and community collaboration, and developing family and community partnerships.

Title IV, Part A - Student Support & Academic Enrichment

The purpose of this program is to improve student academic achievement by increasing the capacity of the state and school district.

Unified School Improvement (UniSIG)

This program serves students attending Title I schools that have been identified for targeted (i.e., school grade of “D”) or comprehensive (i.e., school grade of “F” or two consecutive grades of “D”) support and improvement based on the most recent school grades.
