One-to-One
Digital Learning
Initiative

This semester, Polk County Public Schools is rolling out an exciting new program that will provide a digital learning device for each student in every PCPS school!

About the Initiative

Virtual student at a desk

The One-to-One Digital Learning Initiative is a critical part of the school district's Strategic Plan for providing a high-quality education to all students. This project has been made possible through local and federal funding – including the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund and Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF).

Providing devices to all students expands their learning beyond the classroom and provides greater access to resources addressing their individual needs and specific interests.

If each student has a device, this takes away the challenges of needing to share devices at school and at home. Students can continue learning outside the normal school day and are not restricted to the physical restraints of a brick-and-mortar school.

Schools will send devices home gradually as students learn how to care for them responsibly.

Parents will receive more information from their child's school and PCPS as these devices are assigned and sent home.

Lightspeed Filter

Polk County Public Schools has implemented Lightspeed Filter on all student devices, which is powered by the most comprehensive database of K-12 online content in the industry. Patented Lightspeed agents leverage advanced AI to automatically block millions of inappropriate, harmful, and security-risk websites to keep students and schools safe. The smart AI balances access and security by differentiating between inappropriate images, videos, and games; and those that are educational, such as esports.

To ensure Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance, school districts are required to implement a web filtering solution that blocks obscene material. With its comprehensive database, advanced AI technology, and powerful filtering features, Lightspeed Filter is one of the most effective solutions at blocking pornography and other harmful content, helping to ensure CIPA compliance on every student device.

District staff monitor all web traffic and provide school administrators with information regarding any attempted inappropriate internet usage.
